Our Super Saturday activity will be on Oct. 8, 2011. We will be there 9:00-2:00 with lunch at 12:30. Here is the class schedule:

9:00--Machine Piecing (one hour class)/Furniture Refinishing (may take a large chunk of your morning, depending on the project)

9:20--Effective Scripture Study

9:40--Cake Decorating

10:00--Hand Piecing

10:20--Baking

10:40--Literacy Ideas

11:00--Hypertofa

11:20--Getting Your Kids to Work (without the frustration)

11:40--Home organization

The crafts available are shown below, along with their prices:

Picture Puzzles ($3 for a set of eight). Please bring eight 4x6 photos.

Vine Wreath with Fabric Rosettes ($10). We will have lots of fabric to choose from, or if you bring your own, your cost will only be $8.50.

Moss Initial ($12). Please indicate what letter you want to cover.

Canvas Date Art ($15). We will be doing the initials and date only. Please indicate the initials and date.

Birthday Pennant Banner ($8). We will have a variety of fabric to choose from, so each banner will look unique.

You are welcome to bring your own projects to work on, as well.

Please Sign up and pay for all crafts and classes by Sunday, Sept. 18th.

Hello Sisters! It is that time again to dust off the family chili recipe and make some amazing fall pies for the annual ward chili cookoff and pie night. This is all rolled up together in the Ward Halloween party and there will be something for everyone! So come young and old, in costume or not and participate. There will be homemade rootbeer, award winning chili, homemade pies, a costume parade, trunk or treating (don't forget to decorate your car and bring a bag of candy!) along with a box maze, games for kids, cookie decorating, a photo booth and lots of friends to enjoy the evening with!

Springdale Aquatic Center

I am planning on taking my kids to the Springdale Aquatic Center this Friday. It would be lots more fun if we had some friends to swim with. So anyone who would like to join us, we will probably go just as it opens (12 noon). They have free lifejackets for the little ones and plenty of lifeguards to help watch them. There are several different pools there to provide fun for kids of all ages. Admission is $2 for kids under 4 and $4 for kids 5 and older. Book Group

Hi All

You might have noticed on the far right some info about a book group under "Ongoing RS Activities." Just so you know, this is just a casual group of friends reading and discussing, not an actual Relief Society enrichment group or anything official like that.

That said, anyone interested is welcomed to join us. I normally send out emails to those who have previously expressed interest, but there are so many new people and/or people I might have missed. If you are interested, please call Jessica (659-8958, but don't leave a message because she doesn't know her voicemail passcode.), and she'll answer any questions and put you on the email list.

We are going to be doing things a little differently while school is out, starting with a paperback swap at Jessica Magnusson's house Monday morning. We also anticipate a couple nights out over the summer to discuss books. We hope you'll join us.

Basic Cooking Class

We are going to try to start up our basic cooking class again. The idea is to learn from each other. how to make our food budgets stretch. Each of us knows how to make something that could help the rest of us stretch out our food budgets. So let's share the knowledge!

We are going to start this Tuesday, 10am, at my home (Maren Hufford). I live at 515 Ane Ave in Lowell. My phone number is: 696-9184 if you have a question or need directions.

I will be teaching how to make a quick and versatile non-rising pizza crust. I use it for pizza, calzones and bread sticks. It takes about 10 minutes to mix up and about 20 minutes to bake. Super easy and cheap and it uses ingredients that most of us just have in our cupboards all the time. We would love to have you come! We would like to have a class every other week. Please know that if you aren't interested in this recipe, don't feel pressured to come...we'll do something different in 2 weeks!

Primary Quarterly Activity & Ward Easter Egg Hunt

Primary Quarterly Activity: Building an Eternal Family

All Primary children and their parents are invited to attend the upcoming quarterly activity where we will learn all about what it means to be an eternal family. We will begin at 10 a.m. in the Primary room and end the activity with an indoor picnic lunch just in time for the Rogers Ward Easter Egg Hunt at 12! Please bring a blanket big enough for your family and any sides you want to go with your PB&J sandwich – we will provide a sandwich and dessert!

**During this activity we will be working together as families, so we are asking that parents stay during this activity.**

The Details at a Glance: When: April 11 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (immediately followed by the Easter Egg Hunt!)

Where: Rogers Ward Building

What to Bring: Dad, Mom, Primary children, a blanket, picnic sides for your family, and don’t forget about a basket for the egg hunt!

We had such a great turnout at our annual RS Christmas Dinner. Janene did an amazing job organizing and coordinating all the cooking and decorating. Thank you to the Enrichment Board members for all of your help with the food and cleanup, to President Srderholm for an uplifting message, to Sam, Carolyn, Maureen and Karin for the GORGEOUS place settings, and to all you ladies who stayed late to do dishes. Like I always say...Rogers Ward is the best!

Service for our adopted Grandparents

As some of you may know, we are adopting an Assisted Living Center. We are hoping to make the lives of these ladies (and a few gentlemen) warmer all year...starting now!

So we are going to have a service/playdate on December 9th at the church. We are hoping to tie fleece lap blankets for these folks. If you can, bring 1 1/2 yd segments of fleece to tie. (Fleece is 30 % off at Hobby Lobby this week) If you can't bring fleece, come and visit and tie fleece! We will start at 9:30 am and go until we are finished! Feel free to bring a snack, goodies are never a bad idea....

Donations needed for Missionary Stockings!

We are in need of donations to fill up the stockings for some of the missionaries that serve in this area. We have 27 stockings to fill! So put a few extra items on your grocery list or whip up a batch of your famous fudge and let's pitch in to help these servants of the Lord feel loved and cared for this Christmas.

Here is a list of suggestions for stocking stuffers:

The stockings are for 13 senior Sisters, 11 senior Elders, 3 young Sisters, for a total of 27 local missionaries.

Sewing Class

Hello Ladies! We are planning a small Enrichment Activity on Thursday at 9:30 am at Alissa Brown's house. It is a simple sewing class and we will be learning how to make the Humanitarian bibs. Please give me a quick reply if you would like to attend so we know how many to expect! Also, all you young moms, these bibs are great and would make a good addition to your own bib stash at home.

Primary Dates to Remember

Priesthood Preview - This Sunday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. For all boys who will turn 12 in 2009 and their parents.

Primary Program Practice - Saturday, Nov. 16 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This is our only practice in the Chapel this year, so please try and get your little ones there. Also, please help them work on memorizing their parts. We will practice during Primary on Sunday and it would be awesome if they all had their parts memorized by then. If you have lost your parts or have any questions, contact Molly Lysenko.

Primary Christmas Activity - Saturday, Dec. 6 10-12 at the Ward Building. Children will be asked to bring a $1 gift to donate to a local children's shelter. If this is not doable, please let a member of the Primary Presidency know and we'll make sure your child has one to bring, too.

Hi Ladies!

I know someone who has an older Kimball upright piano who is willing to give it away for free to anyone who will pick it up. I haven't seen it, but am told it's in good condition. If you're interested call me (Vicky) at 631-3878.

Dutch Oven Recipes

Dutch oven Recipes

Easy Poppy Seed Cake
1 yellow cake mix
1 small pkg instant pudding
4 eggs
1/3 c oil
1/3 c water
1 c sour cream
1 tea extract(vanilla, almond, lemon)
1 Tbsp poppy seed
Combine all ingredients. Beat 2 minutes. Stir in poppy seeds. Pour in dutch oven. Cook for about 40 min.

Taco Soup
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 pkg dry taco seasoning
1 16oz can corn
1 28oz can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 16 oz cans cut tomatoes
1 8oz can tomato sauce
corn chips
grated cheese
Brown meat in dutch oven. Add onions and cook until translucent. Stir in seasoning mix. Add corn with juice, beans, tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir until well mixed. Simmer using bottom heat for about 30 min. Serve with chip and cheese.

Corn Bread
2 c cornmeal
2 c flour
1 pudding in the mix yellow cake mix, prepared as directed on pkg.
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 Tbsp baking powder
2 c milk
2 eggs
2/3 c oil
Mix together dry ingredients then mix in the eggs, milk, and oil. Combine the cake batter and cornmeal mixture, then pour into a well-oiled 14 or 12 inch dutch oven. Cover and cook for about 35-45 minutes.

Potatoes
Sliced potatoes
onions
bacon bits
1 can Cheddar Cheese soup
Mix together and cook in dutch oven.

Chicken Dinner
Chicken tenderloins
carrots
potatoes, diced
can of Cream of Chicken soup
Mix in dutch oven and cook.

Peach cobbler
5 cans of peaches
2 white cake mixes
butter
Pour peaches in dutch oven juice and all. Sprinkle cake mixes on top of peaches. Top with butter slices and cinnamon.

We had a great time learning how to use a dutch oven! Thank you, thank you Heidi for teaching us and feeding us all! The food was amazing! We had Taco soup, Chicken-potatoes-carrots with gravy, cornbread, potatoes with bacon and cheddar, poppy seed cake, and peach cobbler. Awesome! We also learned:

*how to start the coals
*how to arrange them on the dutch ovens
*when to line a dutch oven with foil
*how to rotate the ovens and lids to cook evenly
*how to know when it's done

Enrichment Activity coming up!

He ladies! For anyone interested, we will be having an Enrichment Activity on Thursday, October 16th at my house (Maren). We will be learning about dutch oven cooking and Heidi Sederholm is going to show us all about it!

Time: 6:30 pm
Address: Maren's house
515 Ane Ave, in Lowell.

Directions: Get off on the Lowell Exit and turn left off the bypass. Go up the hill to Bloomington (71B). Turn left onto Bloomington, right onto McClure, right onto Oak St. and right onto Ane Ave. We are in the end of the cul de sac.

I highly recommend carpooling, but if you can't, we'll figure it out. If nothing else, you can park on the lawn. You'll fit right in around here! Please let me know by comment or email if you plan on coming so that we can get an idea of how much food we'll need. Thanks!

Desiree had her baby on Sunday...at home! Wow! A girl!!
Her name is Eve Alexis and she was 7 lbs 7 oz and 20 in. long! We can't wait to see!

Pumpkin Patch

I am trying to get a group together to visit a fun pumpkin patch in MO on Friday morning, October 17th. Here is the website for more info/directions/etc:

They are closed during the day on weekdays, except to schedule school field trips, but said they would accomodate us. The discounted group rate will be $3 per person, which includes a science/ag lesson about corn, guided tour through the maze, and a wagon ride. Also we can use the playground area. For an extra $2 the kids can ride the cow train, and for $1 shoot the corn cannon.

If you are interested please email shellysmith1@gmail.com by Monday, October 6th by noon so I can get a head count and make our reservation for our group "field trip" If this date doesn't work for you, be sure to take your family another time! Check their website for rates/hours/directions.

Digital Expo

Hello Sisters!

I will be hosting a Digital Expo on October 11 from 9AM till 10PM and wanted you to know in case there is something you want to learn about digital media.
If you are wanting to learn to take better digital photos there is a class from 9-11:30 on that subject taught by Deborah Billingsley (amazing photographer), then lunch will be provided and you can stay for another class on basic video editing from a professional videographer from 12-2:30.
If you want to learn how to take an oral history for writing someone's life history (or your own!) there will be a workshop on that from 3-5 pm (free!)

THEN, if you want to start a digi-crop group, bring your friends from 5-10 because this is where you will learn how to digi-crop and find others that love to do it too! If you have a group forming, and you all come, you will get a special gift. If you are looking for people to crop with, come and we'll form a group that night.
If you are staying for the digi-crop, bring some snacks and I will have some things there for you to much on too.
I know Saturday is very busy, and if you only have 30 minutes or so, schedule a "drop-in-crop" and I will sit down with you to do a simple project (this requires an appointment though)
The day costs $25 for the whole thing. The 3-5 class is free and the "drop-in-crop" is $5.

We held our "Project Day" on September 20th at our building. We had a great turnout and enjoyed the company and the food.
